Pharmaceutical relevance	Prolyl oligopeptidase attracted interest for possible neurological activities. Inhibitors of the enzyme have been shown to increase concentrations of several neuropeptides in the brain, and to have anti-amnesic activity in rat (Kamei et al., 1992; Li et al., 1996). Accordingly, the enzyme has been regarded as a therapeutic target (e.g. Venalainen et al., 2006).
