| Physiology | Corin is a cardiac transmembrane serine peptidase that has been shown to process pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (pro-ANP) in vitro. An allele common in blacks is associated with higher blood pressure (Dries et al., 2005). |
| Knockout | Corin-deficient mice develop normally during embryogenesis and survive to postnatal life. They have elevated levels of pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) but no detectable levels of ANP. They also show spontaneous hypertension. These finding indicate that corin is the physiological pro-ANP convertase (Chan et al., 2005). |
