MEROPS Classification
Classification Clan CA >> Subclan (none) >> Family C19 >> Subfamily (none) >> C19.030
Holotypeubiquitin-specific peptidase 18 (Homo sapiens), Uniprot accession Q9UMW8 (peptidase unit: 17-372), MERNUM MER0005641
History Identifier created: MEROPS 3.4 (5 November 1999)
Activity
Catalytic typeCysteine
NC-IUBMBNot yet included in IUBMB recommendations.
ActivityIt is reported that ubiquitin-specific peptidase 18 (as UBP43) efficiently hydrolyses only ISG15 fusion proteins, including native ISG15 conjugates linked via isopeptide bonds (<%Malakhov %etal, 2002[20040908A033]%>).
Activity statushuman: putative
mouse: putative
KnockoutThe phenotype of ubiquitin-specific peptidase 18 knockout mice includes shortened life span, hypersensitivity to interferon and neuronal damage (Tokarz et al., 2004). However, the phenotypic alterations of the knockout mice are not caused by lack of ISG15 deconjugation as at one time proposed (Knobeloch et al., 2005).
