| NC-IUBMB | Not yet included in IUBMB recommendations. |
| Structure | There are structural similarities to the pregnancy-associated glycoproteins of other species and to cathepsin E. |
| Physiology | Appears in association with pregnancy in horse. Restricted to the outer chorionic cell layer in the horse placenta both prior to implantation and in the term placenta (Green et al., 1999). It seems that a pepsinogen-like ancestral proenzyme has diversified within the Artiodactyla to give rise to a large and diverse set of homologous proteins. Expression of the gene for rabbit pepsinogen F was found to be restricted to the early postnatal stage, reminiscent of other pepsins expressed in embryonic and neonatal life. |
