PhysiologyIt is reported that variations in the gene are associated with type 2 diabetes, and affect blood glucose levels through changes in the early insulin secretory response (Lynn et al., 2002). The association with type 2 diabetes is found in Mexican Americans but not in Japanese (Horikawa et al., 2003).
