Family M57
Summary for family M57
Family type peptidase | M57.001 - prtB g.p. (Myxococcus xanthus) (Myxococcus xanthus), MEROPS Accession MER0004914 (peptidase unit: 1-265) |
Content of family | Peptidase family M57 contains an endopeptidase. |
History |
Identifier created: MEROPS 5.61 (29 October 2001)
|
Catalytic type | Metallo |
Active site residues | H190 E191 H194 H200 |
Active site | The deduced amino acid sequence shows a motif HEXXHXXGXXH/ "Met-turn" characteristic of peptidases in clan MA, subclan M (the metzincins) (Quillet et al., 1997). In this, the three histidine residues would be ligands of a zinc atom, and the glutamate would have a catalytic role (see the Alignment). |
Activities and specificities | The gene encoding the prtB peptidase has the prtA gene encoding a putative serine peptidase immediately adjacent. Only when both genes were expressed together in Escherichia coli was peptidase activity detectable (Quillet et al., 1997). |
Molecular structure | |
Clan | MA |
Subclan | MA(M) |
Basis of clan assignment | Predicted active site residues for members of this family and thermolysin, the type example for clan MA, occur in the motif HEXXH |
