A semi-synthetic fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, cefepime hydrochloride shows greater activity than third-generation agents against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, and is used for treatment of severe nosocomial pneumonia, infections caused by multi-resistant microorganisms (e.g. Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and empirical treatment of febrile neutropenia.
