Where do I submit my data?

No matter how small-scale your research, you can contribute to the public record by submitting your data to appropriate public databases. This is typically done through dedicated submission tools, which can also guide you through the choice of the right database (for example, EMBL-EBI provides a submission wizard and NCBI a submission portal.)

If you want to submit your data to EMBL-EBI but don’t know where to start, there is a wizard to help you decide which database to submit your data to. The vast majority of public databases also have help pages and helpdesk staff who are there to assist you. The central EMBL-EBI submission wizard can be found in the Data submission section of the EMBL-EBI website or by clicking on the ‘Deposit data’ button from the EMBL-EBI homepage. Figure 10 shows you the submissions portal and wizard.

While sharing data is nowadays standard practice, there are still cases where it is not the right option: you’ll find two examples on the next page.
