Feedback and help

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at experimental or bench-based researchers working in the molecular life sciences who have little or no previous experience of using bioinformatics databases or tools. It will provide a broad overview of bioinformatics as a subject and the resources available publicly for researchers to access and use.

An undergraduate knowledge of a subject related to the life sciences would be an advantage.

This online tutorial is part of the Introductory bioinformatics pathway: A curated set of EMBL-EBI online courses, which provides an introduction to bioinformatics, a brief tour of the resources available from EMBL-EBI and more details about some of those resources, including Ensembl, UniProt and Expression Atlas.

What will I achieve?

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Assess the role of bioinformatics in molecular science.
  • Describe the key features of primary and secondary databases.
  • List strategies for describing data consistently.
  • Identify some of the different types of data analysis that can be applied to solving biological problems.

What resources do I need?

There are no specific resources required to complete this course.
