Zarr and OME-Zarr submissions

Please note - support for OME-Zarr is currently in alpha status. Handling of OME-Zarrs can, and will change.

We advise submitters to zip each individual OME-Zarr archive into a single zip archive in the ZIP format and use the extension .ome.zarr.zip (lower case) for the resulting archive. Using an example from the NGFF specification :

OME-Zarr file structure

series.ome.zarr should be zipped into series.ome.zarr.zip such that unzipping produces the top level series.ome.zarr directory with the same structure as shown above. Please note that we cannot accept zips larger than 2TB, and would recommend trying to keep zips below 100GB to reduce the likelyhood of errors in the upload process. Appending a numerical index to the smaller zip names will help us track which zips should be combined into a single image.

OME-Zarr is a subset of zarr as specified in the NGFF specification. If submitting non ome zarrs, please use the ‘.zarr.zip’ extension not the ‘.ome.zarr.zip’ extension.

We would also advise submitters to check the validity of their zip archives before uploading to the BioImage Archive.
