Breadcrumb trail
Notice: This documentation has been deprecatedFor new web site development and existing site improvement, please refer to the EBI Visual Framework (v1.1) documentation. All services are expected to use the new framework by February 2017. |
Example:

Problem:
If users move to or land on pages that are within a hierarchy on your Service website, it can be very useful to show them where they are in that hierarchy, so that they're not lost.
Solution:
Use a simple breadcrumb trail on appropriate pages. The root of this trail should be your Service (so don't worry about the rest of the EBI website) and only breadcrumbs for pages further up the hierarchy should be hyperlinked.
An example is shown in the image above (highlighted in a dotted red box).
Usage:
It makes most sense to use a breadcrumb trail on pages other than the homepage for your Service and especially when that page exists in a hierarchy.
