DefinitionA racemate consisting of equal amounts of (R,S,S,S)-nebivolol and (S,R,R,R)-nebivolol. A cardioselective beta blocker, it has vasodilatory activity but lacks intrinsic sympathomimetic and membrane-stabilising activity. It is used as the hydrochloride salt for the management of hypertension, and as an adjunct to standard therapy in elderly patients with stable chronic heart failure.

Roles Classification
Biological Roles:
antiviral agent  A substance that destroys or inhibits replication of viruses.
beta-adrenergic antagonist  An agent that binds to but does not activate β-adrenergic receptors thereby blocking the actions of endogenous or exogenous β-adrenergic agonists. β-Adrenergic antagonists are used for treatment of hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, angina pectoris, glaucoma, migraine headaches and anxiety.
Applications:
geroprotector  Any compound that supports healthy aging, slows the biological aging process, or extends lifespan.
antifibrotic agent  Any agent which acts to reduce fibrosis.
antihypertensive agent  Any drug used in the treatment of acute or chronic vascular hypertension regardless of pharmacological mechanism.
vasodilator agent  A drug used to cause dilation of the blood vessels.
cardiovascular drug  A drug that affects the rate or intensity of cardiac contraction, blood vessel diameter or blood volume.
bone density conservation agent  An agent that inhibits bone resorption and/or favor bone mineralization and bone regeneration. Used to heal bone fractures and to treat bone diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis.
beta-adrenergic antagonist  An agent that binds to but does not activate β-adrenergic receptors thereby blocking the actions of endogenous or exogenous β-adrenergic agonists. β-Adrenergic antagonists are used for treatment of hypertension, cardiac arrhythmias, angina pectoris, glaucoma, migraine headaches and anxiety.
