Roles Classification
Chemical Role:
Bronsted acid  A molecular entity capable of donating a hydron to an acceptor (Brønsted base).
Biological Roles:
anti-HIV agent  An antiviral agent that destroys or inhibits the replication of the human immunodeficiency virus.
human metabolite  Any mammalian metabolite produced during a metabolic reaction in humans (Homo sapiens).
antiviral agent  A substance that destroys or inhibits replication of viruses.
antitubercular agent  A substance that kills or slows the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is used in the treatment of tuberculosis.
mouse metabolite  Any mammalian metabolite produced during a metabolic reaction in a mouse (Mus musculus).
nutrient  A nutrient is a food component that an organism uses to survive and grow.
antimalarial  A drug used in the treatment of malaria. Antimalarials are usually classified on the basis of their action against Plasmodia at different stages in their life cycle in the human.
water-soluble vitamin (role)  Any vitamin that dissolves in water and readily absorbed into tissues for immediate use. Unlike the fat-soluble vitamins, they are not stored in the body and need to be replenished regularly in the diet and will rarely accumulate to toxic levels since they are quickly excreted from the body via urine.
Applications:
hypoglycemic agent  A drug which lowers the blood glucose level.
renoprotective agent  Any compound that is able to prevent damage to the kidneys.
antidote  Any protective agent counteracting or neutralizing the action of poisons.
antirheumatic drug  A drug used to treat rheumatoid arthritis.
antipsychotic agent  Antipsychotic drugs are agents that control agitated psychotic behaviour, alleviate acute psychotic states, reduce psychotic symptoms, and exert a quieting effect.
antiparkinson drug  A drug used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
anticonvulsant  A drug used to prevent seizures or reduce their severity.
anti-anaemic agent  A compound which increases either the number of red cells or the amount of haemoglobin in the blood.
antitubercular agent  A substance that kills or slows the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and is used in the treatment of tuberculosis.
anti-ulcer drug  One of various classes of drugs with different action mechanisms used to treat or ameliorate peptic ulcer or irritation of the gastrointestinal tract.
antineoplastic agent  A substance that inhibits or prevents the proliferation of neoplasms.
cardiovascular drug  A drug that affects the rate or intensity of cardiac contraction, blood vessel diameter or blood volume.
antidepressant  Antidepressants are mood-stimulating drugs used primarily in the treatment of affective disorders and related conditions.
ophthalmology drug  Any compound used for the treatment of eye conditions or eye diseases.
antiatherosclerotic agent  A cardiovascular drug that prevents atherosclerosis (a disease in which the inside of an artery narrows due to the build up of plaque). Compare with antiatherogenic agent.
antihypertensive agent  Any drug used in the treatment of acute or chronic vascular hypertension regardless of pharmacological mechanism.
antimalarial  A drug used in the treatment of malaria. Antimalarials are usually classified on the basis of their action against Plasmodia at different stages in their life cycle in the human.
bone density conservation agent  An agent that inhibits bone resorption and/or favor bone mineralization and bone regeneration. Used to heal bone fractures and to treat bone diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis.
nutraceutical  A product in capsule, tablet or liquid form that provide essential nutrients, such as a vitamin, an essential mineral, a protein, an herb, or similar nutritional substance.
