How to submit data to UniProt
Submitting protein sequence data
UniProt accepts submissions of directly sequenced protein sequences obtained by Edman degradation or by manual interpretation of mass spectra, i.e. the manual determination of individual amino acids based on a/b/c/x/y/z ions. These sequences and any associated biological information can be submitted using SPIN, a web-based submission tool (Figure 63). Any protein sequence derived from nucleotide sequencing or from use of a search engine such as Mascot should not be submitted to UniProt but to ENA or PRIDE respectively. All of the information required to create a database entry is collected during the submission process. Accession numbers are provided for submitted sequences which can be used in publications and data can be kept confidential until publication.
