Did you know…. there is primary and secondary viability in the IMPC portal?
Are you able to find all Viability data the IMPC has collected? How can you find out how this test was performed? What is the difference between primary and secondary viability?
Answer:
To learn more about the Viability or other procedures performed by the IMPC, you can directly access IMPReSS or get to the chart page(s) displaying the data.
One route is to search for your gene of interest, in this case we will look up Tmem63b and, once in the gene page:
- Go to the All data table tab in the section Phenotypes
- Filter for viability results
- Click on the relevant row to display the chart page

Once on the chart page:
- The Adult / Primary Viability procedure indicates that the homozygous mice (individuals in which both copies of the gene are knocked out) display a preweaning lethality phenotype (that is, 0 homozygotes are observed at the pre-weaning stage; Figure 37).
- The Embryo / Secondary Viability procedure was also conducted at embryo day 12.5; at this stage, viable homozygous embryos are observed (7 homozygous embryos are alive out of a total of 32 (22%), Figure 38; you can see percentages by hovering over the pie charts)
- Clicking on “Testing protocol” takes us to the IMPReSS description of the procedure
