Virtual course

NEUcrest: "Big Data" workshop

This course will introduce participants to the concept of "big data" in relation to biology, bioinformatics, and life science data. It will explore data resources and bioinformatics tools from the European Bioinformatics Institute and the Wellcome Sanger Institute. The course content will also cover the fundamentals of bulk and single-cell sequencing of RNA samples and provide practical instruction in basic analytical approaches.

Who is this course for?

This workshop is for a cohort of early-stage researchers working on the EU-funded NEUcrest Innovative Training Network.

What will I learn?

Learning outcomes

After this course you should be able to:

  • Search for, locate, and access desired biological data from EMBL-EBI data resources
  • Apply basic principles of data management in relation to your own research data
  • Use the DECIPHER resource to evaluate genomic variants in the context of developmental disorders
  • Evaluate approaches and challenges of bulk and single-cell RNA-seq data experiments
  • Conduct basic processing and analysis of RNA-seq data
