Explore target-disease associations
The core of the Open Targets Platform are our associations pages, where you can:
- Search for a target and view the evidence for associated diseases
- Search for a disease and view the evidence for associated targets
There are a number of options to filter the associations page or adjust the scoring, to narrow down the list of associations.
In this short video, recorded on 23 April 2025, Helena Cornu walks you through the associations page:
Since recording, we have also added the option to view association evidence for interactors of a target:
Association scores
The Platform has a custom scoring system to quantify the relative strength of the evidence for a given association. Please note that the score reflects the amount of data available rather than the quality of the data, and should not be interpreted as a confidence score.
In this short video recorded on 23 April 2025, Helena Cornu answers a question about the Platform’s scoring system:
Direct vs indirect evidence
Evidence for child terms of a disease (as defined in a disease’s ontology) can add useful information when browsing evidence for a target-disease association. In the Platform, this type of evidence is known as indirect evidence, as opposed to direct evidence which refers to the disease and target terms specifically.
In this short video recorded on 23 April 2025, Helena Cornu answers a question about the ontological selection of evidence.
