ARG Analysis: Exploring protein data in UniProt
Now that you have explored the sequence properties of the gene it is time to move to UniProt and investigate the protein properties of FosA.
This part of the activity will continue from where you left off in Ensembl Bacteria. Follow the steps below to complete the exercise.
4. In Ensembl Bacteria navigate to the Sequence page – this is found in the menu on the left hand side of the page.
5. Copy (or download) the nucleotide sequence corresponding to the FosA gene – the FosA nucleotides should be in red.
6. Paste the nucleotide sequence into the UniProt Blast search box and press the ‘Run BLAST’ button – this may take a few minutes for the job to run!
Select the top hit and explore the page to find the answers to the questions below.
NOTE: Steps 4-7 can also be completed by copying/downloading the gene transcript and searching UniProt using the peptide search function.
