Performing a text search

The text search bar can be found at the top right of all InterPro web pages (indicated by the magnifying glass, also called Quick search), as well as under the ‘Search by text’ tool box accessible from the InterPro home page or the search page (see Figure 6).

The ‘Search by text’ tool box can be used to search for a term in InterPro entries and member database signatures. The results will be displayed below the search box. An exact match link will be provided to directly access the corresponding entry page when available. Below the exact match a table containing the list of InterPro entries and member database signatures matching the text search is displayed.

Using the Quick search with an accession will redirect to the corresponding entry page when available or will display the list of InterPro entries and member database signatures matching the text search otherwise.

Figure 6. The InterPro text search can be done using the Quick search found at the top right of InterPro web pages or using the Search by text from the Search page.

You can search for:

  • a UniProtKB protein short name (e.g. DCLK1_HUMAN) or accession (e.g. O15075)
  • an InterPro entry name, short name (e.g.Atypical_DUSP_subfamA) or accession (e.g. IPR020405 or 20405)
  • a member database signature name or accession (e.g. PR01445)
  • a protein structure (PDB) accession (e.g. 1cbs)
  • a Gene Ontology (GO) accession
  • plain text

In the following part you are going to perform a text search and explore a Structure entry page.

First, open the InterPro website in a separate tab.

Enter the PDB structure accession 1eg3 into the InterPro Quick search box on the top right-hand side of the page.
