What can I do with a GO subset?
What are GO subset?
GO subsets often called GO slims are simplified versions of the GO ontologies, containing a subset of terms from the full GO resource. They provide a broad overview of the ontology content without delving into fine-grained details.
Users can create custom GO slims tailored to their specific needs, such as focusing on particular species or areas of the ontologies.
Where Can I Find the GO Slim Tool in QuickGO?
The GO slim tool is available on the QuickGO homepage under ‘Explore Biology’ (see Figure 9).

What Is Included in a GO Slim?
Generic GO Slim: A non-species-specific GO slim suitable for general purposes. Predefined GO Slims: Focused subsets created for specific organisms or groups, such as plants or yeast (see Figure 10).

Additionally, you can create your own GO slim tailored to your requirements. For more details on creating custom GO slims using QuickGO, contact the GOA helpdesk.
When should I use GO slims?
GO slims are particularly useful for providing a summary of the GO annotation of a genome, microarray, or cDNA collection when you require a broad classification of gene products.
