Viewing GO annotations

QuickGO also allows you to search, browse, and filter all GO annotations through the ‘View GO annotations’ section (see Figure 7).

At the time of publication, the GOA database contains over one billion annotations. To help you find relevant gene ontologies, the GO annotation table (see Figure 8) provides several filtering options:

  • Taxon: Filter annotations for specific species, such as human or mouse gene products.
  • Gene Product ID: Search annotations for a particular protein or group of proteins using their accession IDs.
  • Gene Product Type: Narrow results to specific types, such as proteins, protein complexes, or RNAs. Most annotations in GOA are for proteins.
  • GO Term: Find annotations linked to a specific GO term or group of terms.
  • GO Aspect: Filter annotations by ontology category—Biological Process, Molecular Function, or Cellular Component.
  • Evidence: View annotations based on evidence source, such as manual curation or automatic annotation.
  • Qualifier: Focus on annotations with specific relationships between the gene product and the GO term.
  • Reference: Sort annotations by source, such as scientific papers or automatic annotation pipelines.
  • With/From: Filter annotations for gene products interacting with other proteins.
  • Assigned By: Select annotations from specific databases or groups.
Figure 8 Filters for the GO annotation table can be found at the top of table. In addition, you can customise the columns you view and export annotations.
