ENA’s role in the BiCIKL project
The BiCIKL project (Biodiversity Community Integrated Knowledge Library) is an initiative which aims to instigate a cultural transformation in how biodiversity data is identified, interconnected, integrated, and reused throughout the research process. Its goal is to establish a research ecosystem that is more transparent, reliable, and efficient.
As part of the BiCIKL project, the ENA has been working on developing a new data object that can cater specifically to eDNA metabarcoding data submissions. Since the ENA currently does not have an efficient way to accept large volumes of eDNA data consisting of OTUs (Operational Taxonomic Units), this new development will close that gap and make submissions for this data type more seamless.
The analysis object is currently under development and is scheduled to become available to submitters by the end of 2024. If you have any questions regarding this development, please contact the ENA helpdesk.
Discover more about the ENA and how you can use it in your research with this recorded talk from Maira Ihsan, User support bioinformatician at EMBL-EBI.
