What is Europe PMC?

Europe PMC is a global, free, biomedical literature repository, providing access to worldwide life sciences articles, preprints, books, and PhD theses. The resource currently contains over 46 million abstracts and more than 10.7 million full text articles (see Figure 1). A subset of the full text information corpus is the open-access literature that can be downloaded and used from the FTP site, for example for text-mining research.

Europe PMC provides access to all the abstracts in PubMed, and some other large sets of abstracts not available through PubMed (e.g. Agricola), in addition to PMC full text articles and other literature content of relevance to biomedical research (such as PhD theses and patents).

Europe PMC is supported by 35 funders of biomedical and life sciences research. The details of more than 92,000 life sciences research grants awarded by Europe PMC funders are also available on the website.

Europe PMC is a partner in PubMed Central International and was built and developed in collaboration with PubMed Central USA and PMC Canada. The project was launched in 2007 and originally comprised two resources: CiteXplore and UKPMC. Since 2016, Europe PMC has been wholly led by EMBL-EBI.
