Gene regulation

The Ensembl regulatory build is available for Pig, Chicken, Atlantic salmon, Turbot, European seabass, Common carp and Rainbow trout. The annotation provides a set of regulatory features, sequences that may be implicated in gene regulation (Video 8). These sequences have indicators suggesting they may be promoters, enhancers, or other elements.

Video 8 Browsing regulatory data in Ensembl

Regulatory features are generated using a variety of genome-wide assays, such as ATAC-seq, DNAase-seq, and ChIP-seq of histone marks and transcription factor binding. Features for human and mouse are based on data from the ENCODE project. Annotations for farmed animals and aquaculture species are based on data from different FAANG projects.

All primary data are available in ENA, and are indexed and searchable in the ENCODE or FAANG portals.

Ensembl displays the activity of these features in different cell types, and the evidence used to determine this activity.
