Data management

Data management is a very important skill for biocurators. They often work with very large amounts of data, so it is vital to manage the data in a clear and efficient way.

This online tutorial introduces concepts in data management and how you can get the most from your data. It includes some short video clips, in which some of EMBL-EBI’s experts discuss the importance of making data ‘open’, as well as some myths around data sharing.

By the end of this online tutorial you will be able to:

  • Describe the data management cycle
  • Discuss benefits and challenges of data sharing
  • Describe how ontologies and standards are used to annotate biological data
  • Identify appropriate resources and tools for data management
  • Describe the difference between FAIR and open
  • Outline the role of biocurators
  • Discuss the purpose of preprints
  • Know where to find out more about submitting data to EMBL-EBI
