Exploring genes and genomes with Ensembl

Exploring molecular features of genes and genomes is crucial for research in comparative genomics, evolution, sequence variation and transcriptional regulation.

Ensembl creates and imports genome annotations, including data on genes, variations, regulation, and comparative genomics, for vertebrates, non-vertebrates, and key model organisms, providing this information freely online.

This webinar recording with Aleena Mushtaq (Outreach officer at Ensembl, EMBL-EBI), recorded on 29 January 2025, provides an introduction to the new Ensembl browser platform and demonstrate how to navigate the website to retrieve genomic data. The new browser is also home to all data that would previously have been shared on the Ensembl Rapid Release site. The webinar will highlight the improvements in the new platform and how these enhancements can significantly aid in genomic research. Importantly, participants will also be able to engage with the Ensembl outreach team to find sources of help and documentation.

By the end of this webinar you will be able to:

  • Access the main data types through the new Ensembl web browser platform: genomes, genes and genetic variation.
  • Find help and documentation related to the new Ensembl website

Webinar length: 48:17 minutes
