ArrayExpress: public database for functional genomics

Module length: Half day
EBI topics: Gene expression
Resources covered: ArrayExpress Archive of Functional Genomics Data

The module is designed for researchers interested in learning about functional genomics data, how to access, retrieve and use the data. This will involve presentations, demonstrations and practical activities to give participants hands-on experiences.

No previous bioinformatics experience is necessary, however basic knowledge of functional genomics is required.

Learning outcomes

After this course participants should be able to:

  • Browse, search and retrieve functional genomics data from ArrayExpress
  • Describe the caveats and limitations behind the searches made against the ArrayExpress database
  • Describe the components required to understand functional genomics data, with references to community data standards for functional genomics
  • Construct a submission to ArrayExpress using Annotare, should they need to deposit data to support a journal publication
