EBI Training Remote Access Tutorial   

Follow this guide to help setup and configure Nice DCV remote access to training courses.

Virtual Machine – account access 

You can access your designated VM using access credentials. The VMs will be open for testing from 14:00 on the day of the technical test.

Please make sure your name is added next to the machine you are using and don’t access another VM!

Virtual machine troubleshooting

Check the suggested troubleshooting if you have any of the following questions or issues.

1. Exit full screen mode

We advise you to exit full-screen mode in case you want to use keyboard shortcuts to move between screens. Otherwise, it can cause issues such as the mouse or keyboard stopping working (if it happens, exit full screen and it should work fine again).

Hover your mouse all to the top of your screen. A grey bar with show the option to minimise the VM screen.

2. Linux nano/bash shortcuts

3. Where should the data I will work with be placed?

You should use the data on Home directory. If a trainer provided the data on the Penelope cloud shared folder, please copy it and paste it to the home directory before starting working with it. If you use the data placed in Penelope cloud, the data on Penelope cloud will be overwritten by anyone using it. Penelope cloud will be enabled by trainers if they need to share any additional files (so don’t worry if you cannot see it on your VM when you login).

4. I got kicked out of my VM and when trying to reconnect it says “Socket I/O timed out”

If this happens, please message #technical-support on Slack with the issue and your VM username. 

5. I am experienced significant lag on the VM from when I click/type, move the cursor

If your machine is lagging, it might need a reboot. Please save your work and then message #technical-support on Slack with the issue and your VM username. 

6. How to share files with others in the course?

Use the shared folder Penelope cloud > course folder to share datasets and files. 

7. How to transfer files between VM and the local machine?

To transfer files, please follow these instructions.
