MAG generation: lecture
Trainer: Tatiana Gurbich
Overview: This session introduces the process of binning and Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAG) generation; it covers binning, assessment of completeness and contamination, bin refinement, dereplication of genomes, taxonomic classification, generation of MAG catalogs, and some considerations for eukaryotic genomes. A published catalog of MAGs from the human gut microbiome is used to illustrate the application of these processes.
Learning outcomes:
After this session you should be able to:
- Identify the benefits of Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs)
- Apply forefront algorithms to generate MAGs and assess their quality
- Explore widely used methodologies for Dereplication of MAGs across samples, taxonomic assignment and hot to use MAGs to create the Unified Human Gastrointestinal Genome (UHGG) collection
