Quality issues – Data standards, curation, ontologies, and metadata

TrainerSandra Orchard

Overview: Data is now being generated from many sources, by different technologies and in many different final formats. In order for biological insights to be derived from these data, the information needs to be integrated and merged with additional data from other experiments of found in already existing in data repositories and knowledgebases. This section will explain some of the basic requirements to enable this data integration and highlight public domain resources which can aid in data formatting, transfer and integration.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this section you will be able to:

  • Identify quality measures critical for deriving biological insight from any datastes
  • Discover useful public domain resources which can aid in data formatting, transfer and integration
