Annotating the genome with RNA-seq data

Trainer: Victor Flores-López and Alison Días-Cuevas

Overview:

Annotating a genome using RNA-Seq data involves identifying and assigning biological functions to the genes and transcripts in a genome. By annotating a genome using RNA-Seq data, researchers can gain a better understanding of the genes and transcripts expressed in a particular organism, and how they respond to different environments. This session will go thorough an exercise on annotation.

Learning outcomes:

After this session you should be able to:

  • Explain the processes involved in gene prediction
  • Explain the processes involved in functional annotation
