Human Cell Atlas
Trainer: Wei Kheng Teh
Overview: This session was part of the 2023 iteration of the ‘Introduction to RNA-Seq and functional interpretation’ course. The Human Cell Atlas is a global initiative focusing on creating comprehensive single-cell reference maps. Their data is openly available at multiple portals, with the majority found at the Human Cell Atlas Data Coordination Platform. We will be looking at the HCA data portal, as well as the many other data portals and atlases in the single cell RNA sequencing data landscape, with a focus on how they will be of practical use to students and scientists.
Learning outcomes
After this section you should be able to:
- Describe what the Human Cell Atlas is and it’s mission
- Describe The Human Cell Atlas metadata schema
- Identify a number of existing atlases in the single cell RNA sequencing data landscape, including their data types, data availability, and methods of data deposition
- Identify the importance of FAIR data in developing data portals and evolving schemas in tandem
