MGnify MAG resources: lecture

Trainer: Sandy Rogers

Overview:  MGnify provides biome-specific catalogues of species representative Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs). In this session, we will cover how these catalogues are generated and explore the annotations available for their MAGs. In the practical session, you’ll use MGnify’s two catalogue search mechanisms to compare your own gene sequences and entire MAGs against a catalogue. You’ll use the MGnify API to determine whether the MAGs generated in Day 3’s practical are novel compared to an existing MGnify MAG catalogue.

Learning outcomes

After this session you should be able to:

  • Identify the role that Metagenome-Assembled Genomes (MAGs) play within MGnify
  • Identify MAG catalogues and explore their annotations
  • Access data on MGnify
