Manage and share data
When working in research it is essential to keep track of the resources you are using and the methodology you are following, so that you can ultimately share it in a suitable way and acknowledge properly the resources used, like the synthetic datasets. Responsible research data management has several advantages:
- Maximise data re-use value
- Reduce wasted resources spent re-generating data
- Practise good data stewardship
- Uphold FAIR data principles
- Share knowledge and expertise with the next generation of scientists
Advice on how to disseminate information about your dataset
- Publish / archive digital research objects in stable resources (e.g. Zenodo, EGA)
- Obtain and report globally unique accessions (e.g. DOIs, EGA accessions) in preprints and publications
- Clearly define the conditions and restrictions of data use, including the reuse licence that applies or the Data Use Ontology terms that apply
- Describe datasets with rich metadata using standard vocabularies
- Create and share supplementary resources such as digital notebooks, documentation, and training materials
- Acknowledge properly the datasets and the effort spent generating, harmonising, and analysing them
