Phylogenomics methods – discrete phylogeography

Trainer: James Otieno

Overview: This is a step-by-step tutorial on reconstructing the spatial dispersal and cross-species dynamics of rabies virus (RABV) in North American bat populations. We will then analyze the BEAST output using the program Tracer.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will:

  • Be able to set up a phylodynamics models to answer questions pertaining to when and from where did a pathogen originate using the discrete phylogeographic models integrated in the BEAST software.
  • You will also learn how to visualize and interpret the inferred dynamics
