Webinar series

Exploring microbial ecosystems

This webinar series will highlight contemporary concepts, methodologies, and valuable resources for examining microbial ecosystems and their influence on the environment and human health.

Join speakers from around the world as they discuss a broad variety of topics in the field of microbial ecosystems, including its role in disease, biostatistics and publicly available data.

The webinars making up this series are listed below. Follow the links to find out more about each webinar. You will need to register for each webinar you would like to attend. Recordings will be made openly available of all webinars on their individual pages.

Who is this series for?

This webinar series is suitable for anyone interested in microbial ecology and keen to learn more about the applications of metagenomics in modern microbial studies. No prior knowledge of bioinformatics is required, but an undergraduate level knowledge of biology would be useful.

Outcomes

By the end of the webinar you will be able to:

  • Define the human microbiome and explain its significance
  • Discuss the ecological importance of microbial communities in maintaining the health and balance of ecosystems
  • Discuss the approaches used in studying microbiomes in diverse habitats
  • Identify publicly available metagenomic and genomic databases, along with relevant analysis tools
  • Describe the fundamental principles underlying statistical tests
