Webinar series

Ensembl transition webinars

New genomes, access methods, and educational resources from Ensembl

Ensembl provides genome data and annotation freely via websites and programmatic services for over 5000 species. In the summer of 2026, the Ensembl project is moving to new infrastructure to enable the scalable addition of more genomes than ever before. The current Ensembl platform is used by millions of scientists and researchers across the world. This webinar series will cover key aspects of the transition, detail where to find previous Ensembl versions, and highlight exciting new features for analysing the latest genomes.

This series will cover a range of topics including:

  • What to train on if you include Ensembl as a topic in your own genomics modules
  • Resources for those who teach on Ensembl or who want to train on genome browsers
  • The transition plan for Ensembl platforms and what to expect from Ensembl resources ahead
  • The new ways of programmatically accessing Ensembl data as we move to more scalable and accessible architecture

The webinars making up this series are listed below. Follow the links to find out more about each webinar. You will need to register for each webinar you would like to attend. Recordings will be made openly available for all webinars on their individual pages.

Webinars

Who is this series for?

Those interested in genomics and genome annotation. Users of genome browsers and Ensembl tools for genome visualisation and analysis. Bioinformaticians and developers who use Ensembl data or services for programmatic access. Educators who train on genomics with Ensembl.

Outcomes

By the end of this webinar series, you will be able to:

  • Explore resources for providing training on genomics and genome browsers with Ensembl.
  • List key milestones of the Ensembl transition and where key resources for new and legacy sites are available.
  • Identify new scalable and accessible architecture that can be used to programmatically access Ensembl data
