Course Overview

The Ensembl project at www.ensembl.org provides a comprehensive and integrated source of annotation of mainly vertebrate genome sequences. This short 1.5 hour workshop offers participants the possibility of gaining hands-on experience of using the Ensembl genome browser to access variation data and using the Variant Effect Predictor (VEP) to analyse the functional consequences of variants.

Audience

Wet-lab scientists and bioinformaticians

Learning outcomes

Participants should be able to:

  • Describe the data types in Ensembl
  • View variation data in the Ensembl browser
  • Analyse variants using the Variant Effect Predictor (VEP)
