Course Overview
This workshop will provide an overview of EMBL-EBI resources for browsing genomes, exploring variation & protein interactions and for annotation and curation of data.
Audience
This workshop has been organised for PhD students within the Department of Applied Biomedical Sciences at the University of Malta. It is aimed at bench biologists and clinical researchers who are working with genome and/or transcriptome data.
Modules
- introduction-ensemblensembl-genomes
- european-variation-archive-eva
- interactions-and-pathways
- ontologies-life-sciences-examples-go-and-efo
Learning outcomes
After this course you should be able to:
- Retrieve data from Ensembl using the FTP site, the REST API and BioMart.
- Use Ensembl to analyse your own data by uploading custom data and using the Variant Effect Predictor.
- Explore genetic variation using EVA
- Describe what an ontology is and how eg GO can used with your own data.
- Explore molecular interactions and apply a range of specialised tools for analysis of interactions and pathways.
