EMBL-EBI, programmatically - take a REST from manual searching: European Variation Archive
This webinar is part of our series EMBL-EBI, programmatically: take a REST from manual searches.
The European Variation Archive is an open-access database of all types of genetic variation data from all species. You can download data from any study, or submit your own data to the archive. You can also query variants in the EVA by study, gene, chromosomal location or variant consequence using our variant browser.
In this webinar we will focus on programmatically accessing the variant data housed at EVA. The webinar shall be split into the following sections:
- Introduction to the EVA
- Introduction to the EVA API
- Demonstrations of API functionality using Swagger, Command line and Python
- Where to get additional help
- Summary and wrap-up
The webinar to place on Tuesday 21st November. You can watch the recording and download the slides and scripts in Train online.
Other webinars in the series:
There are several other webinars in this series. They include an introduction to programmatic access and three other resource-based webinars featuring Ensembl, UniProt and PDBe that demonstrate how to perform key biological tasks programmatically. You do not need to watch all of the webinars; you can dip in and out and watch only the webinars you are interested in.

This webinar if for those who want to learn about accessing the European Variation Archive programmatically. Some prior knowledge of programmatic access and common programming languages is recommended. This webinar focuses on REST-based APIs but information and links to other methods will be provided. If you are new to programmatic access we recommend that you watch the introductory webinar first. You can learn more about the EVA in our general introduction webinar, or via our Quick Tour.
