Course Overview

This course will provide participants with an introduction to EMBL-EBI and its data tools and resources, covering the whole spectrum of biological / life sciences.  Hands on sessions will focus on providing skills in sequence searching and alignment and making use of resources focused on functional genomics, protein identification and protein interactions.

Audience

The course is aimed at research scientists who wish to use EMBL-EBI resources in their work. No previous bioinformatics experience is required, but an undergraduate level understanding of biology would be an advantage.

Learning outcomes

After this course you should be able to:
  • Browse the data tools and resources at EMBL-EBI
  • Perform sequence searching and multiple alignments
  • Explore datasets within array express and search for expression information using Expression Atlas
  • Navigate the UniProtKB and InterPro databases to determine protein information.
  • Investigate molecular interactions using IntAct and explore reactions and pathways using Reactome
