Figure 1. The reaction catalyzed by the 43C9 antibody. The transition state analog 1 was used as a hapten to elicit the 43C9 antibody, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of the amide 2a or ester 2b into products p-nitroaniline 3a or p-nitrophenol 3b and benzylic acid 4.
