EC 7.1.1.11 ferredoxin--NAD(+) oxidoreductase (H(+)-transporting). [-]

Reaction: 2 reduced [2Fe-2S]-[ferredoxin] + NAD(+) + 3 H(+)(in) = 2 oxidized [2Fe- 2S]-[ferredoxin] + Nadh + 2 H(+)(out).

2 × reduced [2Fe-2S]-[ferredoxin]
+
NAD(+)
+ 3 × H(+)(in)
= 2 × oxidized [2Fe- 2S]-[ferredoxin]
+
NADH
+ 2 × H(+)(out)

Other name(s): Rnf complex.
Comments: This iron-sulfur and flavin-containing electron transport complex, isolated from some anaerobic bacteria, couples the energy from reduction of NAD(+) by ferredoxin to pumping protons out of the cell, generating a proton motive force across the cytoplasmic membrane. Most similar complexes pump sodium ions rather than protons (cf. Ec 7.2.1.2).
