ARISE - Career Accelerator for Infrastructure Scientists
The ARISE fellowship programme enables experienced professionals with a background in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) to advance technology development and service provision in the life sciences and get trained to become future leaders in life science research infrastructures.

The programme will provide three-years long fellowships for 62 experienced STEM professionals who will join different EMBL groups and teams that are developing technologies and providing service to life science community.
The ARISE programme is co-funded by EMBL and the Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) of the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 programme – co-funding of regional, national and international programmes (COFUND).
The ARISE programme is open to experienced STEM professionals from around the world, who have at least four years of experience in technology development in academia or industry, with initial experience in technology development for the purpose of service provision. A PhD is not compulsory.

About the programme
The ARISE fellowship programme is designed to help fellows develop skills that are uniquely required by research infrastructure scientists by providing training in:
Management and operation of research infrastructures and scientific services
A broad understanding of the life sciences
Data management technologies and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data policies
The programme will also provide broad professional networking opportunities.
ARISE fellowship format
Training will be provided through practical work on a research project (technology development), through secondments, courses, conferences, supervision, and mentoring.

The ARISE programme has partnered with a large number of organisations that will support training of the ARISE fellows by providing the opportunity for long- or short-term secondments at their premises.
- Calls for fellowships will be announced once a year, in the autumns of 2020, 2021, and 2022. We expect to offer around 20 fellowships each year.
- Applications should be submitted through the online application portal (link to follow).
- To prepare the research proposal, applicants should get in touch with the EMBL group or team leader whose group or team they would like to join.
