Function and Biology

Structure of the extracellular aspartic proteinase from Candida tropicalis yeast.

Source organisms:
Biochemical function: aspartic-type endopeptidase activity
Biological process: proteolysis
Cellular component: extracellular region

EC 3.4.23.24: Candidapepsin

Reaction catalysed:
Preferential cleavage at the carboxyl of hydrophobic amino acids, but fails to cleave 15-Leu-|-Tyr-16, 16-Tyr-|-Leu-17 and 24-Phe-|-Phe-25 of insulin B chain. Activates trypsinogen, and degrades keratin.
Systematic name:

  • Candida albicans carboxyl proteinase
  • Candida albicans secretory acid proteinase
  • Candida aspartic proteinase
  • Candida olea acid proteinase
  • Candida olea aspartic proteinase
