Successful workshop on "3D Segmentations and Transformations"

On 7 and 8 December 2015, two dozen experts on segmentation of EM maps and electron tomograms, on ontologies and on EM-data archiving met at Madingley Hall near Cambridge for an expert workshop on “3D Segmentations and Transformations - Building Bridges Between Cellular and Molecular Structural Biology”. The workshop was organised as part of PDBe's Mol2Cell project (which also includes the new EMPIAR archive <http://pdbe.org/empiar>).

Open source search technologies workshop announced

PDBe are happy to announce a hands-on, interactive workshop for developers interested in understanding the different open source search technologies available to implement search systems for biological data resources.

Taking place in February of 2016, speakers at the workshop, organised and sponsored by the BioSolr team, will include Grant Ingersoll, CTO, Lucidworks; Eric Pugh, Principal, OpenSource Connections, LLC; members of BioSolr team and others.

wwPDB Hybrid/Integrative Methods Task Force recommendations published

In October 2014, PDBe hosted the first workshop of the wwPDB Hybrid/Integrative Methods Task Force at EMBL-EBI (see http://www.nature.com/news/data-bank-struggles-as-protein-imaging-ups-its-game-1.16196 and http://www.wwpdb.org/task/hybrid). The initial recommendations of this task force have now been published in a white paper.

EMBL-EBI course in "Structural Bioinformatics"

Applications are invited for a course on Structural Bioinformatics that is being organised by EMBL-EBI and that will be held from 12-16 October 2015. This course will explore bioinformatics data resources and tools that are available for the interpretation and exploitation of biomacromolecular structures, focusing on how best to use structural information to gain the most from it in specific research contexts.
