Definition

st-staple
A motif of four or five consecutive residues and one H-bond in which:

  - residue(i) is Serine (S) or Threonine (T)
  - the side-chain OH of residue(i) is H-bonded to the main-chain CO of residue(i–3) or (i–4)
  - φ angles of residues(i–1), (i–2) and (i–3) are negative.

Comments
This is a common feature in the middle part of α-helices. The Ser or Thr side-chain can be regarded as stapling together two adjacent turns of α-helices.
