Summary for clan CN
History | MEROPS 7.60 (23 October 2006) |
Description | Cysteine nucleophile: catalytic residues in the order Cys, His in sequence |
Contents of clan | Clan CN contains viral polyprotein endopeptidases. |
Evidence | (See Protein fold.) |
Catalytic mechanism | (See family C9.) |
Peptidase activity | (See family C9.) |
Protein fold | The tertiary structure has been determined for the nsP2 peptidase from Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (Russo et al., 2006). There are two domains, with the peptidase confined to the N-terminal domain. |
Homologous non-peptidase families | The fold of the peptidase domain is unique for members of clan CN. The C-terminal domain has a structure similar to proteins of the S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase family. |
