Summary for clan CN

Summary Alignment Structure Literature
HistoryMEROPS 7.60 (23 October 2006)
DescriptionCysteine nucleophile: catalytic residues in the order Cys, His in sequence
Contents of clanClan CN contains viral polyprotein endopeptidases.
Evidence(See Protein fold.)
Catalytic mechanism(See family C9.)
Peptidase activity(See family C9.)
Protein foldThe tertiary structure has been determined for the nsP2 peptidase from Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (Russo et al., 2006). There are two domains, with the peptidase confined to the N-terminal domain.
Homologous non-peptidase familiesThe fold of the peptidase domain is unique for members of clan CN. The C-terminal domain has a structure similar to proteins of the S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase family.
