The resultant cyclopolic acid (2,5-dihydroxy-4-(hydroxymethyl)-7-methoxy-6-methylphthalide) is then farnesylated by the DMATS-type prenyltransferase mfmD to afford 5-O-farnesylcyclopolic acid.
