Proteins currently known to belong to this family are:\n\n - GATA-1 [[cite:PUB00004057]] (also known as Eryf1, GF-1 or NF-E1), which binds to the GATA\n region of globin genes and other genes expressed in erythroid cells. It is\n a transcriptional activator which probably serves as a general 'switch'\n factor for erythroid development.\n - GATA-2 [[cite:PUB00002653]], a transcriptional activator which regulates endothelin-1 gene\n expression in endothelial cells.\n - GATA-3 [[cite:PUB00001204]], a transcriptional activator which binds to the enhancer of the\n T-cell receptor alpha and delta genes.\n - GATA-4 [[cite:PUB00003674]], a transcriptional activator expressed in endodermally derived\n tissues and heart.\n - Drosophila protein pannier (or DGATAa) (gene pnr) which acts as a repressor\n of the achaete-scute complex (as-c).\n - Bombyx mori BCFI [[cite:PUB00002835]], which regulates the expression of chorion genes.\n - Caenorhabditis elegans elt-1 and elt-2, transcriptional activators of genes\n containing the GATA region, including vitellogenin genes [[cite:PUB00002909]].\n - Ustilago maydis urbs1 [[cite:PUB00003693]], a protein involved in the repression of the\n biosynthesis of siderophores.\n - Fission yeast protein GAF2.\n\nAll these transcription factors contain a pair of highly similar 'zinc finger'\ntype domains with the consensus sequence C-x2-C-x17-C-x2-C.\n\nSome other proteins contain a single zinc finger motif highly related to those\nof the GATA transcription factors. These proteins are:\n\n - Drosophila box A-binding factor (ABF) (also known as protein serpent (gene\n srp)) which may function as a transcriptional activator protein and may\n play a key role in the organogenesis of the fat body.\n - Emericella nidulans areA [[cite:PUB00005516]], a transcriptional activator which mediates\n nitrogen metabolite repression.\n - Neurospora crassa nit-2 [[cite:PUB00003659]], a transcriptional activator which turns on the\n expression of genes coding for enzymes required for the use of a variety of\n secondary nitrogen sources, during conditions of nitrogen limitation.\n - Neurospora crassa white collar proteins 1 and 2 (WC-1 and WC-2), which\n control expression of light-regulated genes.\n - Saccharomyces cerevisiae DAL81 (or UGA43), a negative nitrogen regulatory\n protein.\n - Saccharomyces cerevisiae GLN3, a positive nitrogen regulatory protein.\n - Saccharomyces cerevisiae GAT1 to GAT4.\n - Saccharomyces cerevisiae GZF3.</p>","llm":false,"checked":false,"updated":false}],"wikipedia":null,"literature":{"PUB00003674":{"PMID":1875944,"ISBN":null,"volume":"11","issue":"9","year":1991,"title":"elt-1, an embryonically expressed Caenorhabditis elegans gene homologous to the GATA transcription factor family.","URL":null,"raw_pages":"4651-9","medline_journal":"Mol Cell Biol","ISO_journal":"Mol.
